James White

James White Drinks, located at Whites Fruit Farm, just north of Ipswich in Suffolk, have been pressing English apples for over 25 years.

Initially started by James White, a local orchard owner, as a cider manufacturer, it quickly established itself as the lotcal fire water. When the banks decided in 1989 this was not a good idea, Lawrence Mallinson, one of the founders of New Covent Garden Soup company took on the remnants and redirected its efforts into making single variety (Bramley, Cox and Russet) apple juices and ceased cider production.

It has since then expanded the juice ranges that it bottles to include apple using HeartBeet beetroot juice which blends (with Elderflower, Cinnamon and Summer Berries) and in 1997 a Soil Association certified organic range. This started with Apple and Pear, but has extended to a wide range of apple / pear blends with Crushed Ginger,Cranberry, Raspberry and Pomegranate and more recently vegetables, including Carrot, Beetroot and Tomato. Last year the company was approached by the medical research team behind the remarkable findings linking blood pressure and Beetroot juice which attracted widespread publicity. Together with them we launched HeartBeet organic beetroot juice and they are undertaking further researches using HeartBeet beetroot juice which we anticipate will produce even moreexciting results later in 2009. In 1997, we also launched Big Tom spicy tomato juice which has been particularly successful in the pub world. In 2002, James White Drinks was granted a Royal Warrant by Her Majesty the Queen specifically for Big Tom.

In 2008 we have launched the manicorganic range of organic 25cl PET bottles. As with all our juices we use only pressed fruits and vegetables with no concentrates, flavourings or preservatives. Made with a new specially reinforced PET, the manicorganic bottles can be hot-filled, like our glass bottles, so they can be supplied with extended shelf life without compromising on taste. This is particularly valuable to remove the risk of being caught with outdated stock as well as enabling product to be stored ambiently. The range currently includes Pear & Ginger, Apple & Beetroot, Orange & Carrot and Peach (developed by Phoebe my 10 year old daughter and a favorite with children).

The company has remained small by focusing at the top end of the UK market and building a loyal and discerning customer base. With recent successes like HeartBeet and manicorganic it has managed to continue to grow even in the recent credit crunch and remains optimistic about the future of the top quality fruit juice market.
