The Bio-D Company have now been trading within the healthstore sector for almost nineteen years. Through establishing a reputation of mutual support, Bio-D have pledged never to supply supermarkets and will always sustain the roots of our origins.

Bio-D was formed by two environmentalists, Michael Barwell and Alan Warren, who were becoming increasingly concerned about the use of potentially hazardous chemicals in household cleaners. Additionally and according to government statistics, there was also a growing awareness that allergies and skin problems were increasing dramatically.

The task was daunting: create a range of household cleaning products that had minimal environmental impact; could be manufactured using biodegradable raw materials from renewable resources; be gentle enough to be tested and declared hypoallergenic and very importantly they had to work!

However, with the help of a local chemist, Dr. Dan Durant and a detergent specialist, Ron Bloor, a full and comprehensive range of household cleaning products was successfully developed and still continues to grow organically.

Bio-D are a family owned company with no faceless shareholders. Alan Warren retired in 1994 and Michael Barwell bought Alan.s shareholding. All Bio-D products aremanufactured in the U.K. hence .product miles. are minimal. All Bio-D products are concentrated for maximum value.

Bio-D have a very strict non-animal testing policy and operate a .fixed cut-off. date of 1988 for all raw materials. Bio-D do not use any ingredients that are classified as animal by-products. All Bio-D products are endorsed by the BUAV, The Vegan Society and The NatureWatch Trust and are subject to regular audits. Bio-D Washing-up Liquid and Bio-D Laundry Liquid are recommended by The Soil Association. Additionally, Bio-D regularly achieve award status from The Ethical Consumer Magazine and .Ethiscore..

Packaging is made from raw ingredients containing a high percentage of re-cycled material and all packaging is, in itself, totally recyclable.

Recently, Bio-D have embarked on a campaign to educate local school children in the importance of sustainability and environmental awareness. The students are actively encouraged to use the raw materials, which are provided free of charge by Bio-D, to make a product which is then taken home for all the family to use.
